Robert Welch

Robert Carl “Bo” Welch, 66, of Hackberry died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021, at a Lafayette Hospital.

He was born, raised, and a lifelong resident of Hackberry, until he moved him to Breaux Bridge nine years ago. He graduated from Hackberry High School in 1972 where he was Senior Class President. After high school, he attended SOWELA Technical School and graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Instrumentation and Electrical Technology. He retired from CITGO Petroleum Corp after 25 years in the Instrumentation field. After his move to Breaux Bridge, he was employed by University of Louisiana at Lafayette as an Electrician Tech.

He was active in many church choirs over the years. At St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Hackberry, he was involved in making a CD of their favorite hymns. After making his ACTS Retreat with St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Carlyss, he was active in the men’s ACTS Ministry throughout Carlyss and the Lafayette area.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Welch, of Breaux Bridge, Brad Welch and wife Katie of Carlyss, Keith Welch and wife Laura of Lake Charles; four grandchildren; sisters, Carol “Bobbie” Fountain and husband Curtis of Hackberry, Verna Jean Istre of Sulphur, and Mary “Coot” McInnis of Carlyss.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernie Robert and Grace Braddock Welch; and one sister.

A Memorial Mass was celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Hackberry on Sunday, Feb. 28.
