Dorothy Tolbert

Dorothy “Dot” Louise Hebert Tolbert passed away on Friday, Feb. 26, 2021, at home with her family at the age of 86.

A lifelong resident of Southwest Louisiana, Dot was raised in Sweet Lake, attended Grand Lake School and then St. Charles Academy (now Immaculate Conception Cathedral School) as a boarder, from which she graduated in 1953. She resided in Lake Charles as a devoted wife, mother, and member of Simpson Methodist Church/St. Luke-Simpson Methodist Church. After the passing of her husband and her mother, she returned to her beloved community of Big Lake, to The Old Settlement (Old Spanish Point) and her family’s ancestral home.

She was an avid gardener and a member of the Board of Directors of Hebert Helms Company and its successive Trust. During her life, she was a member of Sweetlake United Methodist Church, the Sweetlake Homemaker’s Club, the Lion’s Club, Calcasieu 164 Chapter Eastern Star, Thelma Hackett 225 Chapter Eastern Star, Ladies of Sahara. She sat on the Advisory Board of the Council on Aging’s Cameron Community Action group. She enjoyed attending the Big Lake Invitational Fishing Tournament, with her sister, Betty. She belonged to several other Mardi Gras Krewes over the years, and was proud to be a founding member the Krewe de Deux Lac Mardi Gras krewe in Grand Lake. She especially loved putting on parades at Grand Lake School for the children.

She was welcomed into Heaven by her husband, Robert L. Tolbert Sr.; her daughter, Necia Renee Tolbert; her son, Robert L. Tolbert, Jr.; her parents, Murphy Foster Hebert and Mary Pernecia Manning Hebert; and her sister Betty Hebert Geer.

She is survived by her son Kent C. Tolbert and his wife Carolyn; three loving grandchildren: Tyler G. Tolbert, Robin R. Tolbert and Jennifer M. Tolbert; and one great-grandchild: Blair G. Tolbert.

She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in Pujol Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
