Nancy Spell

Nancy Ellen Spell, 79, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024 in a local hospital.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Sulphur. She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Carlyss and was also a member of the Catholic Daughters. She worked as a bus driver with the Calcasieu Parish School Board for many years until her retirement.

Survivors include her children, Brian Spell of Carlyss, Brent (Jennifer) Spell of Orange, Texas, and Marla (Richy) Dubois; her siblings, Norma Louise Breaux of Carencro, Cathy Hughes of Hackberry, and Douglas “D.D. Fontenot of Carlyss; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Huey Leon Spell; parents, Pierre “Pete” and Thelma Fontenot; father and mother-in-law, Evans and Almeida Spell; and one brother.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Jan. 16,, in St. Theresa Catholic Church in Carlyss. Rev. Raymond Cadran, M.S. officiated. Burial was in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
