Summary of MINUTES
The Cameron Parish Tourist Commission met in regular session on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at the Cameron Parish Police Jury Conference Room. The meeting was called to order at 2:03 p.m. with Chairman, Stephanie Rodrigue, presiding. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Ms. Miller and the Prayer was led by Ms. Nunez.
Commissioners present were: Stephanie Rodrigue, Chairman; Tunie Dunaway, Vice-Chairman; Carolyn Miller, Treasurer; Patty Boudreaux, Secretary; Mary Johnson, and JoAnn Nunez.
Absent: JoeAnn LaBove
Guests: Derek Williams, DevDept Website and Social Media Development and Maintenance; Guest and Grand-daughter of Ms. Dunaway, Tianna Dunaway.
Approval of Minutes: Upon motion by Ms. Johnson, seconded by Ms. Dunaway, and carried, the minutes of the January 27, 2022 meeting were approved as written.
Ms. Boudreaux discussed the requirements of posting the minutes in the local newspaper and this will begin with the January minutes.
Treasurer’s Report: Upon motion by Ms. Boudreaux, seconded by Ms. Nunez, and carried, the December 2021 and January 2022 Financials were approved as presented.
Payment of Bills: An invoice from LACVB (Louisiana Convention and Visitor’s Bureau) in the amount of $175 was presented for payment. Ms. Miller will research the value and benefits of having this membership, prior to payment, and will present at the next scheduled meeting. She will also obtain value and benefit of the LTPA (Louisiana Travel Association) so that we can maximize our exposure.
Correspondence: A request was made of Ms. Boudreaux by Ms. Sandra DeShields Ford, Ministry President of Southwest Missionary Baptist Association’s Music Ministry for promotional items for its’ annual workshop on Saturday, March 12, 2022 for 50 people. Upon motion by Ms. Boudreaux, seconded by Ms. Johnson, and carried, the request was approved as presented.
Old Business: Upon motion by Ms. Johnson, seconded by Ms. Boudreaux, and carried, the commissioners agreed to hold the Johnson Bayou vendor fair on the date of the Hackberry event due to lack of venue in Hackberry thus far.
Mr. Williams of DevDept. addressed questions of the members regarding his contract to develop and maintain the new website for the tourist commission as well as social media at a cost of $9,288 annually. In service to the public, the commissioners agreed to obtain pricing on comparable service for comparison.
Ms. Johnson agreed to arrange jambalaya, water and paper goods for 200 people for the Johnson Bayou “Welcome Spring” event, which will be held from 11-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at the Johnson Bayou Recreation Center. Ms. Miller agreed to coordinate vendor.
Ms. Boudreaux recommended fitted tablecloths with logo for windy outdoor events. She will obtain pricing.
A venue is still being sought for the Hackberry vendor fair.
Ms. Johnson agreed to arrange for jambalaya, water, and paper goods for 200 people for the Holly Beach “Spring Fling” in which we will participate from 11-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2022.
The festival rack cards discussion was deferred and will be a standing item on the agenda until information can be gathered.
New Business: Ms. Nunez discussed the group of birders’ visit to Cameron Parish on April 22, 2022. Upon motion by Ms. Dunaway, seconded by Ms. Miller, and carried, the commissioners approved the cost of an evening dinner, prepared by Brown’s and delivered to them.
Ms. Rodrigue reported that Katie Armentor, Cameron Parish Administrator, provided the tourist commission with small bags and Cameron Parish pins for future giveaways.
Ms. Rodrigue reported that promotional items were given to Miss Cal-Cam to include in her Louisiana Fairs and Festivals tour.
Ms. Rodrigue announced that the newly-crowned Miss Cameron, Cesilee Oliver, will be introduced at the police jury meeting of Thursday, March 3, 2022. Ms. Oliver’s focus has been on promoting high-speed internet access across rural areas.
Ms. Rodrigue announced that she obtained information related to the Cameron Amenities Project, now known as Lighthouse Bend, having a projected completion date of the third quarter 2022.
“Branding” and “Colors” was deferred to be discussed at the next scheduled meeting, on March 17, 2022.
Upon motion by Ms. Boudreaux, and seconded by Ms. Nunez, and carried, the meeting was adjourned at 3:11 p.m.
