Lighthouse Bend project to begin soon

By Cyndi Sellers

The Cameron Parish Police Jury will be advertising requests for Proposals for an operator or operators for the Lighthouse Bend Facilities, the new name for the Cameron Amenities project on Davis Road in Cameron.

Venture Global LNG is building the new boat launch, marina, RV Park, pavilion, and market/restaurant development as a replacement for the Parish’s loss of a boat launch and RV park access at the Cameron Jetties, due to construction of the Calcasieu Pass LNG facility.

The Parish and Venture Global are seeking one operator for the entire development or separate operators for each section of the development. Potential operators should have experience in the type of operations being offered. It is hoped that an operator can be selected by December, so the restaurant operator can participate in the interior design.

Venture Global hopes to have a water bottom permit and ground breaking in September, with completion of the entire project in 12 months. Priority will be given to the boat launch, to accommodate oyster fishermen.

The Cameron Answers group assisted with the selection of a name for the development. The name Lighthouse Bend was chosen to commemorate the Calcasieu Pass Lighthouse that once guided ships into the Calcasieu River. The lighthouse was removed in 1940 to make way for the Calcasieu Ship Channel.

A marketing campaign is being developed to bring travelers in from the Interstate, and the public can help choose the logo. The Cameron Parish Police Jury website and Facebook page show the four logo choices. Voting ends this week, on Twitter.
