Leland Valery East, Sr., 83, died at his home on Friday, Aug. 7, 2020.

He was a member of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. He was born in Grand Chenier. He graduated from Landry High School in 1955 and joined the Army National Guard, spending over 30 years in service. He also worked at Firestone for over 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Joy Keller East; children, Donna Kiernan Carter and husband Darrell, Leland Valery East, Jr. and wife Jody; brother, Jared East; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceeded in death by his parents, Morris and Mabel East; son, Warren East; and one brother.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church on Tuesday, Aug. 11. Monsignor Jace Eskind officiated. Burial followed at Consolata Cemetery.
