Karl Styron, Jr.

We mourn the loss of our dear husband, father, brother, son, and friend to anyone he ever met. Karl “Jody” Joseph Styron Jr. was born to Karl and Jamie Styron on July 28, 1981 and passed away on Thursday, Mar. 25, 2021.

After graduating from South Cameron High School in 1999, Jody joined the Army where he served with honor for four years. After the Army, he established Styron LLC with his father, Karl, who was also his mentor and best friend. In 2011, Jody joined the Chevron family working offshore as an operator for more than six years. When his first child was born, he traded the offshore work that he loved for a land based operator’s position with SASOL (subsequently purchased by LyondellBasell) to be home with his family.

Jody was a jack-of-all-trades; he very much enjoyed building and fixing boats and motors in his spare time and loved to lend a hand to anyone in need. He was an aspiring carpenter, always happy to build his wife anything she asked for. He had many hobbies, but the ones that brought the signature million-dollar smile to his face were hunting, fishing, singing, and cooking. Anyone lucky enough to have shared time with him in these activities knows his tagline, “living the dream.”

From the moment he became a father, Jody strived to be the best example and role model for his children. As soon as his truck pulled into the driveway after work each afternoon Kai and Kenna would run to the door excitedly bouncing up and down in anticipation of his body slams and tickles carefully tailored for each of them. In his vows he promised his wife to give her, “all the love I possess for as long as God will allow,” and that he did.

Our beloved Jody Styron was preceded in death by both his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Stephanie Styron; his children, Kai Joseph Styron and Kenna Lee Styron; his brothers, Cody James Styron and Matthew Kaine Styron; his nephews, Carter Kaine Styron and Levi Danger Liptak; his nieces, Calla Ann Styron and Penelope Trouble Liptak; his parents, Karl and Jamie Styron; and many, many, more.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Apr. 1, from 4 until 8 p.m. at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will resume Friday, Apr. 2, at 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. with a rosary to be prayed a 9 a.m. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Creole.
