James “Jim” Luther Carpenter, 76, of Hackberry died Wednesday, July 14, 2021.
He was born in Anderson Co., South Carolina. He was a native of Easley, South Carolina and a graduate of Easley High School. He played football for Clemson University where he received his Ceramic Engineering degree. He served in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant stationed at Fort Polk during the Vietnam War. Upon honorable discharge, he attended McNeese State University where he graduated with a Masters of Science in Chemical Engineering.
He was a longtime resident of Hackberry where he attended Hackberry United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his son, Ben Carpenter of Hackberry; brother, Joe Carpenter of Ft. Worth, Texas.; mother of his son, Cynthia Lowery Carpenter of Hackberry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James “JayBird” Morton Carpenter and Mary Elizabeth White; one brother and one sister.
A memorial service was held Sunday, July 18, at the New Hackberry Community Center. Rev. Sheri Zehner officiated.
Cremation was entrusted to Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
