Ernest Fontenot, Jr.

Ernest Fontenot, Jr., 91, of Iowa passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2021. Ernest was born Dec. 12, 1929.

Born and raised in Hecker, he lived most of his life in Hackberry. Ernest was an employee with the State of Louisiana for 12 years where he worked on the Cameron Ferry. He then worked for the Cameron Parish Police Jury as an equipment operator for 35 years, retiring in 2011.

Ernest loved eating good food, playing and listening to music, woodworking, visiting with family, friends, and anyone that would listen. He never met a stranger and absolutely loved spending time with his family.

Those left to cherish his memory, are his wife of 57 years, Norma Jean Fontenot of Hackberry; son, Bradley Fontenot and wife Denise of Creole (Iowa); grandchildren, Kaysha Guidry and husband Chris of Lacassine, Tye Fontenot and wife McKayla of Jennings, and Cody Fontenot; great-grandchildren, Klancie Hebert, Ellie Guidry, Hadley Fontenot.

He was preceded in death by his mother; and sister, Dolores Holden.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 25, at the Old Hackberry Community Center beginning at 3 until 9 p.m. and will resume Saturday, June 26, at 9 a.m. until the time of services. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Old Hackberry Community Center. Burial will be immediately following at Hackberry Community Cemetery.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Christus St. Patrick Hospice, especially Felicia and Keeisa.
