Yvonne Key

Yvonne Babineaux Key of Lake Charles, born in Grand Lake, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2022, at the age of 87.

She attended LaGrange High School and Sowela Technical College. She was a professional cook and housekeeper, she served many special guests ranging from family members to prominent people from Dallas, Chicago, Houston including Lady Byrd Johnson, Vice-President Dan Quale, and President George Bush Sr.

She is survived by a son, Wade Hanchey (Christine); daughters, Mona Hanchey DeFries (Larry), Kathy Hanchey Derouen (Terry), Ellen Hanchey Fontenot (Darrell Schexnayder), Elaine Hanchey Newman (Robert); sister, Anne Brewer; 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alida (Cradeur) Babineaux and spouses, Roy Wade Hanchey, John C. Key, Lee Boudoin; a grandson, Brandon DeFries; and great-grandchildren, Paityn, Bryker, Jabari, and Taysom Alexander.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 15, at Johnson and Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Burial followed in Prien Memorial Park in Lake Charles.
