Vernita Tillery

Vernita “Shoe-Shune” Landry Tillery, born in Creole on Feb. 15, 1928, daughter of the late Clifford and Eve Theriot Landry, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024, at age ninety-six.

Shoe-Shune enjoyed sewing, cooking, bingo, dancing and loved spending time with family and friends.

She graduated from Grand Chenier High and was a member of Scared Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, AJ; daughters, Connie, Maugarette, Nyola, Debbie, Judy, Becky; grandchildren, Tammy, Bill, Jr., and Veronica; sisters, Pestosh, Emerline, and Maxine.

The survivors are her daughters, Barbara Potie and husband Bobby of Creole, and Eva Nadine Bourriaque of Kaplan; thirteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 12, at 1 p.m. in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa with Rev. Roland Vaughn, Celebrant. Burial followed in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Visitation began Wednesday in the funeral home from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The family would like to give special thanks to Eastridge Nursing & Rehab of Abbeville, and Lamm Hospice for their tender love and compassion to our mom while in their care.
