Special called Police Jury meeting held June 11th

Cameron Parish Police Jury met for a special called meeting on Wednesday, June 11, at 10 a.m. in the Cameron Parish Annex Board Room at 148 Smith Circle in Cameron.

All jurors were in attendance. Ronald Nunez, Jr. called the meeting to order; the Pledge of Allegiance and Prayer were conducted.

Motion carried to grant the president authority to sign a resolution calling a special election for Police Juror District No. 4. The juror seat was vacated by Danny Myers after he resigned on Monday, June 2.

Juror Sonny McGee made a motion to nominate former Cameron Parish Sheriff, Ron Johnson, as the new juror and the motion was seconded by Juror Johnny Watson. Motion carried to accept Johnson to complete the term until the next election. Ron Johnson was then sworn in by Clerk of Court, Susan Racca and joined the jurors who were seated in the forum.

Johnson articulated that he will not be a candidate that runs for the seat this fall. He said he looked forward to serving and felt he was a cross-representation for all the areas; Cameron Parish is a great parish, and he looked forward to serving.

On the agenda was a discussion about: Venture Global CEA Amendment, as well as discussion on parish wide taxes, no action was taken – and will be discussed at the next monthly meeting scheduled Monday, July 7. The Jury would like more public input at the next meeting. Motion passed for temporary road closure of Davis Rd. during construction per Cameron Parish Code of Ordinance, Chapter 19, Article 1, Sec. 19-10.

Jurors voted to go into Executive Session to discuss details of settlement approved Monday, June 2, concerning Grand Lake Barn Rd. Upon returning from Executive Session it was disclosed there is still litigation pending; agreements have not been signed. No action was taken and no further information was disclosed. This matter is expected to be resolved by the next regular meeting.

Motion carried to adjourn the meeting.
