Schools’ exit day is May 21st

The Cameron Parish School Board met in regular session on May 12, at 5 p.m.

The meeting was called to order, with the Apr. 14, 2025, regular meeting minutes approved.

All board members were present with the exception of Randall Faulk, Dist. 8.

Board members voted unanimously to use an unused banked day and change the exit day for all Cameron Parish Schools to Wednesday, May 21.

Kathy Hayes reported that school finances and budget are in good shape for the 2024-25 school year and will close the expenses of the school year out under budget.

The board said they saw no need to raise millage rates for the 2025 tax year and voted to adopt the present rates. Hayes outlined a plan to use leased school buses to reach a goal of having a fleet of all new buses within three years.

A bid was received and accepted from Christopher McCall/Little Pecan Island, the only bidder for Alligator Egg collection on the East Side of Cameron Parish. McCall bid $8 per egg.

The board accepted a lease offer for the Lacassine Section 16-12-5 to Mike Miller and Brent Morvant for $2,500. They also authorized the Geo Engineers contracted by Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority to perform a cultural resources survey.

James Hoffpauir, Project Management, stated bids would go out sometimes in June, to be accepted in July, for repairs to South Cameron High School including repairs to athletic field (Stadium Light Poles and Bleachers) and South Cameron High School New Gym Complex

Johnson Bayou High School Track bids will be received on May 22, 2025 .

The board approved staffing numbers of 295 for 2025-26 school year. Within those numbers included an assistant transportation and maintenance supervisor and assistant finance officer as recommended by CPSB’s audit firm.

Approval by the board was given for the Johnson Bayou High School request for a Field Trip to Main Event in Beaumont, Texas on May 15, for end of year reward celebration for students having met AR goals.

Policy JCDA Student Code of Conduct for 2025-26 will remain as is with no changes, per annual Discipline Policy Review Committee meeting.
