Ronnie Dean Picou, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at the age of 73 in his residence surrounded by his family and friends.
Ronnie was loved and known by everyone as Deannie Bug. He never met a stranger, always had time for everyone, brought life to the party, and never failed to make the whole room laugh with his quick and witty remarks.
His legacy began on May 6, 1950 as he was born to the late Hayes “Papa” Peter Picou Sr. and Velma “Kato” Katheleen Picou. He was raised in Cameron and resided there for many years. He attended South Cameron High School where he excelled in sports and earned a state championship title in wrestling.
He was a proud graduate of the class of 1968. After high school, he drove dump trucks for his dad’s company and paved his way to become a successful and ambitious salesman. He was known in his field of work for his dedication and loyalty.
He worked hard so he could play even harder. He was an avid outdoorsman that loved hunting, fishing (especially teaching his brother how to do it the correct way), cutting grass, bossing everyone around while working cows, and watching his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids at their sporting events. One of his proudest accomplishments was his camp in Toledo Bend that he and his wife built from the ground up. While he loved it for himself, he enjoyed it even more when his family would join him up there. He was happiest on a boat, in the blind, on the road or spending time with his family.
Ronnie valued his relationship with Christ more than anything. While he had always been a faith-filled man, making and serving on the Men’s ACTS retreats really lit his faith life on fire. He never missed Mass, enjoyed praying the Rosary, especially alongside his family, and always pushed those around him to be more like Jesus.
Ronnie’s devotion extended to his family, who meant the world to him. He shared 42 years of marriage with his loving wife, Sharon Picou. Together, they had four children: Myron Dean Picou (Kaylan), Michael Pierre Duhon (Krissy), Ashley Nicole Picou, and Jameson Dean Picou.
In addition to his wife and four children, Ronnie is survived by his two sisters, Brenda Conner (John), Ramona Benoit (Ronnie), favorite brother, Hayes Peter Picou Jr. (Mary), his most cherished grandchildren: Kara Picou, LaRayne Stutes (Sean), Jenna Trim (Cody), Maci Duhon, Zoey Montie, Marli Duhon, Kole Duhon, Melah Doxey and great-grandchildren: Tayte Picou, Luke Picou, Caden Harmon, Heidi Stutes, Edynn Trim, Thomas Dean Trim, Brielle Harmon, and his brothers-in-law: Dudley Venable Jr. (Terri), Mark Venable (Michelle), and Bryan Venable-Platt (James).
While Ronnie will be dearly missed by all who knew him, he would want everyone to know that he was more than prepared and eager to meet his Lord and Savior. He had run his race and was prepared to be offered up and reunited with his family and friends that have gone before him.
Visitation for Ronnie will begin at 4 until 9 p.m. with a Rosary beginning at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, at J.E. Hixson Funeral Home and visitation will resume at 9 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday.
A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church with Monsignor Gaddy officiating. Burial will follow in Grand Lake/Sweet Lake Cemetery in Grand Lake under the direction of J.E. Hixson Funeral Home.
