Early voting in this year’s presidential and general election is on track to break all records. As of Tuesday afternoon, only two and a half days into the 10 day early voting period, 732 votes had been cast at the Grand Lake Library. Registrar of Voters Michelle Richard said the last presidential election, in 2016, drew 811 early voters.
Presidential elections typically attract the largest number of voters, and this year looks to be no exception in spite of the difficulties caused by two major hurricanes. On Tuesday voters were coming in from outlying area like Abbeville and Deridder. The large number of voters in the Grand Lake area may also be contributing to the high numbers. There are several days of early voting to come, and the Hackberry site will be open Monday and Tuesday next week, further swelling the total.
