The Cameron Parish Police Jury will meet Thursday, Mar. 4, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Both meetings will be streamed live on Facebook. Topics to be discussed at the morning agenda meeting include fire district consolidation, jetty pier damage, and the formation of a Long Term Recovery Group. The Parish Administrator will also make a report.
Items on the afternoon voting agenda include a reauthorization of a permit for Sempra subsidiary LA Storage, LLC to construct and operate a new natural gas salt dome facility and associated compression and pipeline facilities in Hackberry. The project involves conversion of three existing salt dome caverns to natural gas storage and development of one additional cavern for additional storage service, located within the permanent natural gas storage facility.
In addition, LAS will construct and operate on-site compression facilities, natural gas pipelines to serve the facility, and a brine disposal pipeline to transport brine to four disposal wells. In addition, the company plans to drill up to six water wells at three locations for solution mining.
Third Louisiana Resource, LLC seeks a permit to install three low water crossings within the Petit Bois Mitigation Bank to relieve excessive, long-term flooding in certain areas that has “negatively impacted tree growth and survivorship.”
Roy Bailey Construction, Inc. is seeking to reclaim two existing borrow pits off Trosclair Road in Creole using hurricane wood waste and construction/demolition debris to prevent further unnecessary damage to Troxclair Road. If approved, approximately 230,000 cubic yards of hurricane debris and 56,900 yards of fill material would be used on the site.
The Jury is planning to send a letter to Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon and the SWLA legislative delegation requesting action to address issues related to hurricane damage and requiring greater clarity and transparency be provided by homeowners’ insurers and agents in Louisiana.
The Jury also will consider filing necessary documents allowing the parish to allow indoor, on premises consumption of any food or beverages if the parish has a community spread COVID-19 positivity rate of 5 percent or less for two consecutive weeks.
A Finance meeting will be held at 12:30 p.m., discussing the budget, employee reclassifications, and a waterworks allocation.
