Plans discussed to rebuild hospital, implement temporary clinic

Commonwealth LNG Chairman Paul Varello recently met with Cameron Police Juror Scott Trahan and District Attorney Tom Barrett to discuss plans to rebuild South Cameron Memorial Hospital and steps to implement a temporary clinic in the interim. Commonwealth expects to begin construction of its LNG facility at the mouth of the Calcasieu River early next year.

Local medical resources would be capable of providing such services as pre-employment physicals and drug screening, as well as first aid as needed for construction and operations personnel.

Police Juror Trahan and D.A. Barrett are actively building support from local businesses to restore medical capabilities in the parish after such services were rendered unavailable locally since Hurricane Laura battered South Cameron Memorial Hospital in August of 2020.
