Hornets fall to DeQuincy

The Grand Lake Hornets faced the DeQuincy Tigers at home last Monday in district play. The Tigers quickly got out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning and never looked back with the Hornets trying to keep up. Unfortunately errors cost Grand Lake in the end.

Wyatt Istre went 1-4, Rylan Young went 1-4, Wyatt Wilkerson went 2-3 with 2 RBIs, and Kaden Taylor went 1-3.

Vinton shuts out Grand Lake

The Hornets we’re hoping to bounce back from the loss to DeQuincy the day before as they face another Calcasieu Parish foe in the Vinton Lions. Hits were very hard to come by in this one and nothing really went the Hornets way as Vinton shut the door on Grand Lake.

Tanner Benoit went 1-2, Wyatt Istre went 1-3, and Kaden Taylor went 1-2.

Rylan Young and Tanner Beniot both pitched and had a combined 8 strikeouts.

Hornets almost pull off the upset!

They we’re so close! The Hornets traveled to Crowley to face the Notre Dame Pioneers in district play. Early on it had appeared that Grand Lake was going to run away with it scoring 7 runs in the 1st inning. Committing 4 errors kept the Pios in the game and proved costly at the end.

Tanner Beniot went 1-3 with an RBI, Law Faulk went 2-4 with 2 RBIs, Wyatt Istre went 1-4 with an RBI, and Cass Verzwyvelt went 1-3 with an RBI.

Mustangs fall hard to DeQuincy

On Friday the Hackberry Mustangs made the trip up Highway 27 to DeQuincy to face the Class 2A Tigers in a non district contest. For the first 3 innings the Mustangs hung tough and forced a few errors by the Tigers which kept HHS hanging around. At one point they led the Tigers 4-3 until the 4th inning when the Tigers woke up and scored 9 runs to add on to the other 5 they had scored in the 2nd and 3rd innings. The Mustangs never had an answer for DeQuincy after that.

Reese Trahan went 1-3 with 2 RBIs, and Brant Thomas went 2-3 with an RBI.
