Olive Benoit Rutherford, 93, of Creole died on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022.

She was a native of Creole where she spent most of her years. She worked as a cook for Cameron Elementary School and then became a sitter for South Cameron Memorial Hospital Swing Bed Unit and for many elderly families for many years. During her time of working, she ran the Rutherford Motel. She was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church since 1963.

She is survived by her children, James “Wendell” Rutherford and wife Doris of Iowa, J.E. Rutherford and wife Julie of Iowa, and Carolyn “Bird” McCall of Grand Chenier; nine grandchildren; and sisters, Corrine Willis and Norma Lee Bourriaque.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eli Benoit and Alida LaBove Benoit; husband, Carl Rutherford; son, Karl Lee Rutherford; two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 28, at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Burial followed at Rutherford Cemetery in Creole.
