The Cameron Parish Tourist Commission met in Regular Session on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at the Cameron Parish Library, located at 10200 Gulf Hwy. in Grand Lake, La. The meeting was called to order at 2:04 pm with Chairman, Stephanie Rodrigue, presiding. The Prayer was led by Ms. Boudreaux and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Ms. Johnson.
Commissioners Present: Stephanie Rodrigue, Chairman; Carolyn Miller, Vice Chairman; Mary Johnson, Treasurer; and Patty Boudreaux, Secretary.
Absent: Tunie Dunaway, JoAnn Nunez and JoeAnn Labove
Guests: N/A
Approval of Minutes: Upon motion by Ms. Johnson, seconded by Ms. Boudreaux, and carried, the Minutes of August 10, 2023 were approved as presented.
Correspondence: Ms. Rodrigue presented an opinion from the Cameron Parish Beachfront Development, Dist. #1, in response to a request from the Creole Nature Trail to consider banning seashell harvesting of those shells that provide a habitat for sea creatures. An official response from the tourist commission will be forthcoming as well.
Treasurer’s Report: Ms. Johnson reviewed the YTD Financials for the month of August. Upon motion by Ms. Miller, seconded by Ms. Boudreaux, and carried, the financials were approved, with recommendations to change “Fur Festival – Promotion” to Event Promotion and “Parish Promotion/Events” to Promotional Items, a copy of which is attached hereto and made a part thereof.
Payment of Bills: Upon motion by Ms. Miller, seconded by Ms. Boudreaux, and carried, the recurring charges from The Dev Department in the amount of $774 and The Cameron Pilot in the amount of $12 were ratified.
Old Business:
Promotional Items: Ms. Boudreaux provided ideas and pricing for the Trunk-R-Treat event at the end of October, as well as the cost to re-stock striped totes and ink pens. Upon motion by Ms. Johnson, seconded by Ms. Miller, and carried, the request to order 250 Coloring Books with Crayons and 250 Pumpkin Strobe Safety Lights, with the addition of Necklace Attachments and up to $100 of Candy for the table, as well as 1,000 Striped Totes and 1,000 Ink Pens were approved as presented.
TripChat: Ms. Rodrigue reminded commissioners that emails be obtained from local businesses in each area of the community so that an information campaign can be sent from TripChat, reflecting the membership of the Cameron Parish Tourist Commission, and encouraging membership from local businesses as well.
Louisiana Travel Summit: Ms. Miller showcased promotional items she received from participants of the summit for future consideration.
Louisiana Ornithological Society (“LOS”): Ms. Boudreaux discussed a head-count of 75 bagged meals for attendees of their Fall meeting on Friday, October 27, 2023 at the Hackberry Community Center. Ms. Overby mentioned that they ran out of meals at the last event due to last-minute arrivals. Upon motion by Ms. Boudreaux, seconded by Ms. Miller, and carried, the request for a maximum of 75 bagged meals from Brown’s Grocery was approved.
New Business:
Public Comment: N/A
Graham Group: Ms. Rodrigue presented a proposal for website and social media management.
Reports from Members: Ms. Boudreaux reported that she had fulfilled a request by Southwest Missionary Baptist Association for 40 fly swatters for their “Outreach Day” at Good Hope Place Apartments on Saturday, September 30, 2023. Ms. Boudreaux also provided approximately 200 cooling towels for the Beach Sweep on the western side of the parish.
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Grand Lake Library.
Upon motion by Ms. Miller, seconded by Ms. Johnson, and carried, the meeting was adjourned at 2:58 pm.
