The Cameron Parish Tourist Commission met in regular session on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at the Cameron Parish Police Jury Conference Room. The meeting was called to order at 1:06 p.m. with Chairman, Stephanie Rodrigue, presiding. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Ms. Boudreaux and the Prayer was led by Ms. Nunez.
Commissioners present were: Stephanie Rodrigue, Carolyn Miller, Treasurer; Patty Boudreaux, Secretary; Mary Johnson; and JoAnn Nunez.
Absent: Tunie Dunaway and JoeAnn Labove
Guests: Derek Williams, The Dev Dept.
Approval of Minutes: Upon motion by Ms. Johnson, seconded by Ms. Nunez, and carried, the minutes of the August 18, 2022 meeting were approved as written.
Treasurer’s Report: Ms. Miller reviewed the monthly financials for August. Upon motion by Ms. Boudreaux, seconded by Ms. Nunez, and carried, the financials were approved as presented, a copy of which is attached hereto and made a part thereof.
Payment of Bills: Ms. Rodrigue presented the monthly billing from Dev Department in the amount of $774. Upon motion by Ms. Boudreaux, seconded by Ms. Johnson, and carried, the invoice was approved for payment.
Correspondence: N/A
Old Business: Derek Williams presented changes to the website and answered questions from members. Businesses with a valid occupational license will be solicited for advertisement on the new website via an ad in The Cameron Pilot; pushed on social media; and emailed to current occupancy license holders. Local churches will be included at no charge. Upon motion by Ms. Boudreaux, seconded by Ms. Nunez, and carried, the commissioners approved up to a maximum of 15 hours, at an hourly rate of $75, for The Dev. Department to continue updating content on the website, as well as a social media push to solicit Cameron Parish occupational license-holders to add their business to the website for a maximum of three (3) months, at a maximum total cost of $100.
Ms. Miller presented a revised “Experience Guide” published by the Lake Charles Tourist Commission, which includes many areas of Cameron Parish. In lieu of this guide, the Festivals Rack Card Agenda Item will be removed and festival information will be maintained on the website.
Ms. Boudreaux presented quantity recommendations and per-item-pricing for various promotional items to re-stock inventory for future events. Upon motion by Ms. Miller, seconded by Ms. Nunez, and carried, the commissioners agreed to move forward with the recommended items, pricing, setup fees and details to be emailed for consensus, then ratified at the next meeting in October, allowing Ms. Boudreaux to place the orders and receive prior to the next scheduled birder event in October.
Ms. Rodrigue recommended rescinding the agenda item for “Let’s Geaux Fishing” since she did not receive a new proposal.
Ms. Rodrigue informed the commissioners that she visited with a company at the Louisiana Travel Summit called “Trip Chat”, which provides story-based content in an audible tour guide format. They will attend the October meeting with a presentation to our group.
Ms. Boudreaux offered notes and charts from one of the break-out sessions at the Louisiana Travel Summit which described various generations and how to market to each based on the way they prefer to receive information.
Ms. Nunez reported that she has placed an order for food from Brown’s in Hackberry for the Friday night meeting of the birders event being held at the original community center at 6:30 pm on October 28, 2022. Upon motion by Ms. Miller, seconded by Ms. Boudreaux, and carried, the request to provide food was approved and promotional items will be bagged for the attendees.
Ms. Miller mentioned that the Southwest Master Naturalist will be staying at MainStay Suites in Hackberry for their event on April 21, 2023. It was agreed that promotional items will be given to the attendees.
The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 13, 2022 at 1:00 p.m., with location to be determined since this is a police jury meeting day.
Upon motion by Ms. Nunez, seconded by Ms. Johnson, and carried, the meeting was adjourned at 2:53 p.m.
