POLICE JURY
BUDGET MEETING
OCTOBER 11, 2023
The Cameron Parish Police Jury met in regular session on Wednesday October 11, 2023, in the Cameron Parish West Annex Board Room in the Village of Cameron, Louisiana at 12:01 o’clock P.M. for the review of the 2023 Budget and to hear budget request. The following members were present: Mr. Curtis Fountain, Mr. Joe Dupont, Mr. Thomas McDaniel, Mr. Scott Trahan, Mr. McKinley Guidry, Mr. Lawrence Faulk, Mr. Magnus McGee and Mr. Kirk Quinn. No member was absent.
Kayla Johnson, Treasurer, reviewed the 2023 Budget with the jury and answered any questions concerning the report.
Mr. Dupont, President opened the floor for budget request.
Shane Manuel, Road & Bridge Superintendent addressed the jury and requested to purchase equipment needed for Facility Maintenance, Parish wide Road & Bridge and Garbage. Mr. Manuel’s budget request was approved.
It was moved by Mr. McDaniel, seconded by Mr. Trahan, and carried, the board hereby allocates $100,000.00 to Gravity Drainage District No. 4.
Tom Barrett, Cameron Parish District Attorney, addressed the jury and requested to hire a new employee to train under Renee LaBove in preparation for her retirement. It was moved by Mr. McGee, seconded by Mr. Guidry, and carried, the board hereby approves Mr. Barrett’s request.
Harry Fontenot, Cameron Parish Public Defender addressed the jury to request Benefits for himself and Mike McHale. It was moved by Mr. Guidry, seconded by Mr. Quinn, and carried, the board approves Mr. Fontenot’s request.
It was moved by Mr. Quinn, seconded by Mr. Faulk and carried, the board hereby allocates $1 million dollars to fund a recreation complex in Grand Lake, with the stipulation that the community must pass a higher maintenance tax to cover the new facility and if the tax fails the money will return to the general fund, or if there is an emergency need of the parish the money will return to the General Fund.
The vote was recorded as follows:
YEAS: Joe Dupont, Kirk Quinn, Lawrence Faulk, McKinley Guidry, and Scott Trahan.
NAYS: Curtis Fountain, Magnus McGee, and Thomas McDaniel
ABSENT OR NOT VOTING: None
South Cameron Consolidated Fire Districts Fire Chief Tim Dupont, addressed the jury for authority to purchase a new fire truck not to exceed $160,000.00. It was moved by Mr. Trahan, seconded by Mr. Quinn, and carried, the board hereby approves Mr. Dupont’s request.
Katie Armentor, Parish Administrator addressed the jury and requested to advertise for and hire a new employee to train under James Gaspard in Facility Maintenance in preparation for his retirement. It was moved by Mr. McGee, seconded by Mr. Guidry, and carried, the board hereby approves Ms. Armentor’s request.
With no other discussion or action needed, the budget meeting was adjourned.
