Much awaited project completed

By Michelle Long

After much delay caused by the pandemic and several storms, the Cameron Parish Beachfront Development District #1 announced that the new “Welcome to Holly Beach” sign, donated by Cheniere Energy, has been installed at the intersection of Hwy 82/27 in Holly Beach.

Numerous community members and parish officials were involved in making this project a success which began with Aaron Lagneaux’s vision for an inviting welcome sign to showcase Holly Beach.

The Beachfront Development Board Commissioners of Lisa Hunt, Mark McCombs, Joella Bott, Terry Burroughs, and Richard Burbank voted in favor of the project. Kara Bonsall and Emily Mock from the Cameron Parish Police Jury assisted in finding the donation from Cheniere Energy and answering numerous logistical questions.

Ray Lee Myers acquired the necessary DOTD application and contacted Acme Signs, where Mark Hebert created the design. Lastly, Myers then marked and cleared the area and worked with the crew to finally install the sign on Wednesday, Nov. 17. What started as an idea back in October 2019 has now become a beautiful landmark for Holly Beach. Thanks to all who made this project such a success.
