LDWF to host Derelict Crab Trap Rodeo

The Louisiana Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries will host its annual Derelict Crab Trap Rodeo volunteer cleanup event in February. LDWF encourages volunteers and sponsors to participate in these events to make this crab trap rodeo successful and keep our Sportsman’s Paradise pristine.

A volunteer day is planned to help collect and remove derelict crab traps on Saturday, Feb. 19 at the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge West Cove Public Launch (north side).

Since 2004, the LDWF, together with individual volunteers and organizations, has successfully removed over 50,000 abandoned and derelict crab traps from Louisiana waters. The removal of these traps is especially important to boating safety and crab harvesting efforts.
