Minutes
The Cameron Parish Tourist Commission met in Regular Session on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at the Cameron Parish Library, located at 10200 Gulf Hwy. in Grand Lake, La. The meeting was called to order at 2:07 pm with Chairman, Stephanie Rodrigue, presiding. The Prayer was led by Ms. Boudreaux and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Ms. Johnson.
Commissioners Present: Stephanie Rodrigue, Chairman; Carolyn Miller, Vice Chairman; Mary Johnson, Treasurer; Patty Boudreaux, Secretary; and Tunie Dunaway.
Absent: Tunie Dunaway, JoAnn Nunez and JoeAnn Labove.
Guests: N/A
Approval of Minutes: Upon motion by Ms. Dunaway, seconded by Ms. Miller, and carried, the Minutes of April 27, 2023 were approved as presented.
Treasurer’s Report: At the time of the meeting, the financials had not been received by accounting and will be presented at the next meeting.
Payment of Bills: N/A
Correspondence: Ms. Dunaway informed commissioners that the post office key is held by Arlene at the police jury office and mail is gathered for all departments.
Old Business:
Occupancy Taxes: Ms. Rodrigue will meet with Katie Armentor, Parish Administrator, to discuss collection and processes thereof.
Crab Fest: Ms. Boudreaux mentioned that a requisition will be sent to Brown’s in Hackberry for 10 cases of water to be distributed, along with koozies, to spectators at the “Sandcastle Lessons” on the morning of June 10, 2023. Upon motion by Ms. Boudreaux, seconded by Ms. Johnson, and carried, a motion to order 10 cases of water from Brown’s was approved.
Shirts: Ms. Boudreaux will collect theme selections and sizes to order each commissioner an additional polo shirt as well as a t-shirt with full-color logo, based on previous approval at the Special Meeting held in April.
Tent: Ms. Boudreaux reported that the tent was used for the first time at the recent event in Baton Rouge with legislators. The tent will also be used for the Sandcastle Lessons noted previously. Photos are still being gathered for backdrop and skirt sides.
Promotional Items: Ms. Boudreaux mentioned that all items were received from Work Designs and placed in storage, with the exception of the sticky note booklets, which have not yet been delivered. Event-specific promotional items are being reviewed for the fishing festival.
New Business:
Strategic Planning: Ms. Rodrigue requested consideration for a strategic planning session to discuss annual budget and future events, as well as marketing the TripChat App on the website and fb while encouraging local businesses to advertise as well.
Louisiana Travel Summit: Ms. Rodrigue mentioned that the 2023 Louisiana Travel Summit will be held in Baton Rouge on August 29-31, 2023, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Upon motion by Ms. Boudreaux, seconded by Ms. Miller, and carried, the commissioners approved attendance, participation in all events, reserving a half table for promoting Cameron Parish, Lodging, Travel, Meals and Per Diem.
The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Cameron Parish Library in Grand Lake, La. The following meeting will be held in conjunction with the Cameron Lions Club’s “Captain’s Night” and Lighthouse Bend Ribbon-cutting Ceremony being held at the new location on Davis Road at Noon on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.
Upon motion by Ms. Dunaway, seconded by Ms. Miller, and carried, the meeting was adjourned at 3:36 pm.
