On motion of James Cox, second by Tommy Arceneaux and carried, the Finance Report thru June 30, 2021 was approved as presented by the Secretary.
Clay LaMaire told the board that the culverts were installed at McCain’s Pond and the machine would be moved to the island. He plans to do a fly over to spray the hard to reach laterals near Cripple Creek. Once the machine is moved to the island, he recommends cleaning lateral #2 and #33 and installing a plastic culver to improve drainage. Other laterals that will need to be cleaned include laterals #3, #26, and #27.
During the public comment period James Cox told the board that there is a possibility of a class action lawsuit being filed against the City of Lake Charles and the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury for the flooding of over 400 homes. He mentioned this to the board because this may result in new attention being paid to the need for dredging the Intercoastal and keeping a lower level of water in the marshes. He thinks these two strategies will help facilitate drainage during large rain events.
On motion of Tommy Arceneaux, second by James Cox and carried, the meeting was adjourned.
