Jimmy Ernest Granger died Friday, Mar. 25, 2022 at the age of 80, a day shy of his 81st birthday, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

He was born and raised in the Granger Cove area of Grand Lake. He graduated as valedictorian from Grand Lake High School in 1959 and went on to obtain his degree in mechanical engineering from McNeese State College where he was a member of the ROTC. He served in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant in war time for 2 years (1964-1966) in Vietnam.

Upon his return from the war, he served in the U.S. Army Reserve for another four years. He was Catholic. During his career as a mechanical engineer, he worked for F. Miller and Sons, DW Jessen, Cities Service, and managed SPR sites for DynMcDermott and Boeing Petroleum.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aladin and Eva Granger; and two brothers Clifford Granger and Buddy Granger.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Fontenot Granger; two daughters and their spouses: Cindy Granger Dore’ and husband Chad, and Leslie Granger Curol and husband Bryan; four grandchildren; and sister, Juanita Granger Ethridge.

A mass of Christian burial was held at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church on Monday March 28, 2022. Burial including military honors followed at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.
