Iowa man found guilty of sexual battery

On July 21, Donivyn Scott Cormier, 22, Iowa, was found guilty of Sexual Battery by a 12-person Jury. The crime carries a minimum of 25 years in jail and up to 99 years.

In 2019, Cormier molested his 10-year-old cousin. At the time of the arrest, he was charged with Molestation of a Juvenile and Aggravated Crime Against Nature. After further investigation by the Cameron Parish Sheriff’s Department, the charges were amended to Sexual Battery.

“We are thankful for the jurors that served on this trial. The jury unanimously found the defendant guilty as charged. I am extremely thankful to the victim who had the strength and courage to report this crime.” said District Attorney Tom Barrett.

Cormier is being held without bond in the Cameron Parish Jail. The pre-sentencing investigation report is due within 60 days. When received by the Court, sentencing will be scheduled there after by Judge Penelope Richard of the 38th Judicial Court.
