Hornets run past Elton

By Jake McCoy

The Grand Lake Hornets are once again victorious after defeating the Elton Indians 42-28 last Thursday at Hornet Stadium. After a 30 minute lightning delay, the game finally started at 7:30 p.m. with the field being a little soggy from the heavy downpour that occurred about an hour and a half before the game.

But that didn’t stop the Hornets from running up and down the field all night. Although they were down 14-0 early it didn’t take long for Grand Lake’s offense to get in a rhythm. Brycen Guillory’s 3 rushing touchdown performance helped him and his teammates cruise to a comfortable win. His performance also earned him the Under The Lights player of the game.

Under The Lights is a Louisiana high school football broadcasting network that originated in Port Barre and Opelousas. In the past 6 years the network has expanded statewide and last Thursday night’s game against Elton was the first time the UTL crew broadcasted a game in Cameron Parish! We hope to eventually have them broadcast more games in our parish in the future. It’s good to see these young athletes getting some exposure as well as playing with a statewide audience watching.
