Glender McEvers

Glender Jean Helen McEvers, 84, of Sweet Lake was peacefully ushered into her eternal rest surrounded by her loving family on Monday, Febr. 27, 2023 at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.

Glender was born in Creole on Oct. 13, 1938 to parents Joseph Levan Broussard and Ethel Broussard Savoy. She attended Creole High School in Creole. Glender resided in Creole most of her life until moving to Sweet Lake following the destruction of Hurricane Rita. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and Court Mary Olive Catholic Daughters in Creole until her relocation. Continuing in her Christian faith, she was currently a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Big Lake.

Glender was known as a humble, quiet soul, admired and respected by many with a warm smile to brighten any room. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

She loved cooking and baking, especially her sought after German chocolate and pineapple cakes. She will be remembered as an awesome cook but most especially for the love and affection she showered on her family. She was a doting grandmother that went above and beyond for her grandkids. Her hobbies and her favorite past times included playing Pokeno and BINGO. Glender was also a member of the elite “Golden Girls” in Creole, along with her friends, Merlene Landry, Audrey Vaughan, and Betty LaBove.

She is welcomed into heaven by her parents, Joseph Levan Broussard and Ethel Broussard Savoy; stepfather, D. A. Savoy; son, Rufus “Rudy” McEvers; and in-laws, Ernest and Evyone Richard.

Those left to mourn, honor, and cherish her memory are her loving husband of 65 years, Loston McEvers; daughter, Jocelyn Broussard (Travis) of Sweet Lake; brothers, Joseph “Poochie” Broussard (Pat), Burnell Broussard (Violet) both of Lake Charles, and Byron Broussard (Lenore) of Moss Bluff; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Richard (Barry) of Lacassine, and Margaret Little (Willard) of Grand Chenier; grandchildren, Erica Richard (Tommy), Alex Broussard, Lil’ Rudy McEvers, and Joey McEvers; great-grandchildren, Tanner Savoie, Kylie, Blake, and Olivia Richard, Lawston and Locke Broussard, Cameron McEvers; along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the nurses on 7 tower from Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.

The family will receive friends at Hixson Chapel of the Lilies at 3001 Ryan St., Lake Charles beginning at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 2, until 8 p.m. A rosary will be held at 6 p.m.
