Kim Montie, Cameron Parish Port Director read a letter requesting support from Cameron Parish Police Jurors during the Morning Meeting of the regular CPPJ December meeting held Monday, Dec. 2.
The Cameron Port Board request asked that the CPPJ sign a letter of support for Commonwealth LNG to include with their application to the FTZ Board to become a part of Cameron Parish Port’s Federal Trade Zone area. The Parish and all the taxing entities involved with the LNGs have historically approved a letter of support.
Montie explained, both Cheniere and Venture Global are included in their FTZ and the only money the taxing entities in the Parish would be giving up is the annual self-reported gas inventory tax. A Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) is a secure area in the United States where manufacturers can store, process, distribute, and use imported goods without being subject to customs duty and therefore located at Ports of entries into the United States. The Cameron Parish Port Board is the administrator of FTZ 291.
The Cameron Parish Police Jury voted unanimously to send a Letter of Support for Commonwealth LNG’s FTZ. Juror Sonny McGee made the motion and Danny LaVergne seconded; the motion carried.
