The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that the Cameron Ferry will remain in service until its United States Coast Guard mandated dry dock construction begins. Dry dock is anticipated to start no later than Tuesday, Nov. 12, following USCG approval of an extension for the M/V Cameron II.
Once the Cameron Ferry is removed from service, a relief ferry will continue limited service across the ship channel. While the relief ferry is in service, any vehicle combinations longer than 50 feet will be required to detour and may use I-10. The boat launch on the west side of the Calcasieu River, adjacent to the ferry landing, will be closed to ensure safety while the relief ferry is in service.
The Cameron Ferry is expected to be in dry dock for approximately six months after work begins. During the scheduled downtime, the Cameron Ferry will undergo its mid-cycle hull exam, internal structural exam and rehab/repairs to major mechanical systems.
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
