Dry spell ends with rain, hail

By Cyndi Sellers

Two weeks ago Cameron Parish was in Significant Drought status. Since then we have had six or more inches of rain and two hail events. The thunderstorm on Saturday, Apr. 18, brought strong winds and hail up to golf ball size north of Holly Beach, smaller elsewhere. Cameron received 2.5 inches of rain that day.

This Tuesday afternoon an unexpected line of storms brought two or more inches of rain, followed by a strong line of storms in the early morning hours that produced small hail in several places including Cameron and Grand Chenier and two more inches of rain. So a total of 6.5 inches of rain fell in Cameron, and more in other places, breaking the drought.

The State Fire Marshal lifted the statewide burn ban on Thursday, Apr. 23.
