Joey Dockins, Water Operations Specialist, for Cameron Parish Water and Wastewater District #1 received highest honors this year at the Louisiana Rural Water Association’s Annual Awards Ceremony when he was named the “Water System Operations Specialist of the Year” (South). The awards were presented on Wednesday, July 21, at LRWA’S 35th Annual Training and Technical Conference held at the Cajun Dome in Lafayette.\
Also in Cameron Parish receiving the highest honor was, Mary Canik, Cameron Parish Waterworks Dist. #7, in Creole for “Office Person of the Year” (South).
Those receiving nominations were: Cameron Parish Water & Wastewater Dist. #1 in Cameron for “Wastewater System of the Year” (South) and Kirk Peshoff for “Wastewater System Operations Specialist of the Year” (South). Cameron Parish Waterworks Dist. #10 in Johnson Bayou for “Water System of the Year” (South) and Rhonda Morrison for “Office Person of the Year” (South)
The LRWA Award’s Program was established to recognize the outstanding efforts of Rural Water and Wastewater Systems and their personnel. Of all the operators across the state, Dockins was selected as this year’s winner for dedication to providing safe drinking water and/or helping to maintain a cleaner environment through their efforts in the water industry in the State of Louisiana.
LRWA is a non-profit organization established in 1978 to aid small water and wastewater systems through training and on-site technical assistance. Their assistance is geared toward the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater systems and to aid them in understanding the rules and regulations of said operation.
