Claudelle Sandifer

Claudelle “Pickie” Courvelle Sandifer, 86, of Sulphur, passed away on Tuesday, Mar. 22, 2022 in her home surrounded by her family. Claudelle was born Dec. 14, 1935.

She was a native of Vinton and later moved to Johnson Bayou and settled in Carlyss. Claudelle worked as a custodian at Johnson Bayou High School for 20 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church. Pickie enjoyed quilting, spending time with her family (especially her grandkids), cooking, reading spiritual books and praying the Rosary.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Angela Trahan (Glenn) of Johnson Bayou, Joni Bruks (Ivars) of Sulphur, Dusty Sandifer (Juanita) of Johnson Bayou, Robin Sandifer of Carlyss, Toby Sandifer of Carlyss, Veronica Conner (Darrel) of Many, and Scott Sandifer (Jennifer) of Singer; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Bobby Courvelle (Susie) of Vinton, Bonita Blanchard (Quentin) of Kinder, and Lonnie Courvelle of Vinton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Hot Shot” Sandifer; her parents, Leman and Paulette Benoit Courvelle; her siblings, Sadie Jinks, Lewis Courvelle, Lester Courvelle, Shirley Labit, Patsy Sonnier, and Ronnie Courvelle.

Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Mar. 26, at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Friday, Mar. 25, from 5-8 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home and will resume Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until service at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
