Certificates were given to many at June School Board meeting

Cameron Parish School Board met for their regularly scheduled meeting at 510 Marshall St., in Cameron on Monday, June 9.

Board Members in attendance were: Mitchell Kelley, Dist. 4; Vickie Kiffe, Dist. 5; Telesha Bertrand, Dist. 3; Sharon Picou, Dist. 6; Joseph Delcambre, Dist. 7 and Randall, and Faulk, Dist. 8. Board Members who were absent were: Marsha Trahan, Dist. 1 and Christi LaBove, Dist. 2. Superintendent Charley Lemons was absent with Supervisor Robert Gates standing in for him.

Supervisor Gates called the Fiscal Budget Hearing to order; there were no comments. The Hearing was adjourned by Roberts.

The regular meeting was called to order by President Bertrand; the Prayer and Pledge were conducted.
Recognition was given to the following:

Student/Teacher/Principal of the year Parish level as well as State Champions and State Runners Up from the State Track Meet.

Motions carried to approve the agenda and the board minutes of the April 14, 2025 regular meeting of the Cameron Parish School Board.

Financial Issues were presented by Kathy Hayes. Motions carried to Authorize payment of the bills, Receive Financial Statement and Reports of Current Investments.

Receive updated information 2024-25 Budget. Motion carried to accept approval of terms of engagement and terms of services to be provided by Grayson, Cassidy & Guillory LLP Certified Public Accountants. Motion carried to approve 2025-26 Budget.

Hayes shared optimism for the future finances and announced that children could eat free for one more year.

Michael Cassidy with Cameron District Attorneys Office District presented a proposal to the Board for leasing 4 1/2 acre tracts of Section 16-T14S-R3W-Southwest Grand Lake Lease. Motion carried to approve 5 year term leases at $6000 per year to be paid up front.

Current construction activities were presented by James Hoffpauir, Project Management. South Cameron High School New Gym Complex will be advertised for bids in late June to be accepted in late July. No projects are out for bids/quotes at this time.

Motion carried to accept bid from lower bidder Gunter Construction on Johnson Bayou High School Track.

Robert Gates, Maintenance/Transportation Supervisor reported that this is a busy time with maintenance and repairs being done to get ready for August. He reported they are picking up three new school buses, one being a handicap bus.

Motion carried to approve SCHS Beta Clubs to attend National Conferences being held in Orlando, Fla.

Motion carried to get an updated appraisal at the property, 510 Marshall St. in Cameron.

Motion carried to adjourn the meeting.
