The body of a driver was recovered from a Cameron Parish waterway Tuesday, Feb. 6.
Sheriff Ron Johnson says authorities were notified just before 2 a.m. by an on-board safety system that a vehicle was involved in a crash on La. 27. When deputies responded, there were no obvious signs of a crash, but divers were called in to search the water.
Louisiana Department of Fisheries and Wildlife first searched with sonar and were able to determine something was in the water. The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office dive team then came in to search.
A vehicle with the driver’s window rolled down was recovered and crews continued to search for the driver, whose body was found around 2:30 p.m. this afternoon.
The driver has been identified as Jeremie Keith Melancon, 34, of Lake Arthur.
