Uradell Hebert Bargeman, better known as “Dell,” was the oldest of two children born to the late Delmar Hebert and Alzina Bishop in Lake Charles on Oct. 16, 1924. She passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023 in Los Angeles, Calif. at the age of 98.
After the passing of her parents, Uradell lived with her uncle and aunt, Joe and Celeste Savoy in Cameron, who preceded her in death.
Uradell met the love of her life with Lee Ander Bargeman. They were wed in March 1940, and from their union they have four children, James, Charles Wilson, Nona Mae, and Mable.
In 1971, she decided to move away from Creole to Los Angeles, Calif. to be closer to her son (James), who had moved a few years prior. The Los Angeles weather agreed with her, as she enjoyed daily walks. She was well known by neighbors due to her daily walks in the warm weather.
Uradell’s life can best be summed up by the word “Kindness”. She was known for her goodness, her sweet smile. She had an incredibly positive attitude; she was always a joy to be around. She was always looking forward to the next day, never looking back at what was already done. Whether she approved of life choices or not, she never judged but always prayed for you to be happy. After losing her husband, she played the role of mother and father to her children. She enjoyed cooking her Cajun/Creole foods, eating her cookies, her jellybeans, and drinking one can of Coca-Cola every day. She had a sweet tooth.
She enjoyed desserts more than anything else. She loves reading the newspaper and watching the news. She was very adamant about wanting to know what was going on in the world. She was the matriarch of the family.
Uradell was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Ander Bargeman; two children, Charles Wilson and Nona Mae; her brother, Clarence Hebert Sr.; half-sisters and brothers, Anna, John, Ella, Yula, Ollie, and Lorena.
She is survived by two children, James Bargeman, and Mable Bargeman (Los Angeles); two grandchildren, James Bargeman Jr, and Victoria Bargeman (Los Angeles), a special niece that she raised, Mary Ann January (Lake Charles), niece Rudy Cockrell (Lake Charles); nephew, Clarence Hebert Jr (Houston, Tex) and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
We would like to thank the staff at West Hills Health and Rehab Center, Skirball Hospice at the Los Angeles Jewish Home nursing facility, and her physician for the past 35 years, Dr. Allan Kurtz, M.D.
Services were held at St. Mel Catholic Church in Woodland Hills, California on Wednesday, June 7, at 1:30 p.m. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, Calif.
