Step sponsors still being sought

By Cynthia Sellers

The Cameron Preservation Alliance held a virtual meeting on Monday, Sept. 20. The Board voted in favor of International Chimney Corporation/Commonwealth measuring the interior of the Sabine Pass Lighthouse and designing the new stairwell. The measurements will be conducted by personnel scaling the interior.

While sufficient funds have been raised to construct and install the staircase, several steps are still awaiting sponsorship. It’s not too late to have a step named in memory or in honor of someone special. Much more work remains to be done on the historic lighthouse to retore it to its earlier condition, and sponsorship would free up funds for other needs.

Steps cost $1000, which can be paid in installments. Electronic payments may be made at www.PayPal.com/fundraiser/charity/1983950 or by check mailed to Cameron Preservation Alliance, c/o Andy Tingler, 115 Boudreaux Ln., Lake Charles LA 70607.

The Alliance is seeking a permit to repair the lighthouse access road, which was washed out by Hurricanes Laura and Delta last year. It has taken a long time to get permission from the US Army Corps of Engineers to fill in the washout and reinforce the side of the road.
