The Cameron Parish Port Harbor & Terminal District met in regular session on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at the Port Board Building, Cameron, Louisiana at 5:00 o’clock p.m.
Present: Howard Romero, Wendell Wilkerson, Ricky Poole, Tim Dupont, James Brown, Sheila Miller, Jennifer Picou, Alfred Devall II, Nathan Griffith
Absent: Dwight Savoie
Guests: None
Parish Agencies: Clair Hebert Marceaux, Cameron Parish Port Director; Tunie Dunaway, Asst. Port Director; Tom Barrett, District Attorney; Butch Guidry, Police Juror; Chelsea Champagne, Assistant District Attorney.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman James Brown.
Butch Guidry led the Pledge of Allegiance and James Brown gave the invocation.
On the motion of Mrs. Miller seconded by Mr. Wilkerson and carried the board approved the March 23, 2021 minutes.
On the motion of Mrs. Miller, seconded by Mr. Romero and carried the board approved the Treasurer’s Report.
On the motion of Mr. Wilkerson, seconded by Mrs. Miller and carried the board approved the April Bill Payment.
The Board reviewed the actuals and the budget.
Under Correspondence the Board received a Newsletter regarding the Louisiana Watershed Initiative-Mermentau Basin Inundation Relief Project, and a Public Notice from the East Coast Guard District regarding a fixed bridge and tunnel over the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW), Algiers Alternate Route, Mile 3.8, in Belle Chasse, Jefferson and Plaquemines Parishes, Louisiana.
Port Director Clair Hebert Marceaux updated the board on the repair to the roof of the port building from winter storm damage. She reminded the board that another member has to be appointed for the Grand Cheniere/Klondike/Lowry District. She updated the board on the Waterway Suitability Assessment beginning June 1, 2021, the Fishing Festival scheduled for August 6 & 7, 2021, and the 6th Washington Oil and Gas Forum 2021 where she will be a guest speaker scheduled for June 16 & 17, 2021 at the Cosmos Club of Washington, DC. She explained the benefits of the Louisiana Watershed Initiative-Mermentau Basin Inundation Relief Project to the board. Discussion on drainage and water flow also was discussed. Discussion and Public Comment Period followed.
District Attorney Tom Barrett invited everyone to Captain’s night, the Thursday before the Fishing Festival.
Mr. Nathan Griffith updated the board on the areas they clean for the International Beach Sweep that’s scheduled for September of each year. Port Director Clair Hebert Marceaux requested sponsorship from the port for the International Beach Sweep event.
Mr. Butch Guidry discussed Holly Beach Road and the steps taken by DOTD to preserve it from the storms/hurricanes. Mr. Romero and Mr. Wilkerson, inform the board that, the rock project helped build the beaches back after the hurricanes. They also discussed rock lining the Ship Channel and Mr. Devall stated something should be done to slow the speed of ships using the Ship Channel. Discussion and Public Comment Period followed.
Mr. Brown reported to the board that the Brown’s Market & Deli in Grand Lake will open May 28, 2021.
There was no Old Business to discuss.
Under New Business the board considered Approval of a Resolution and President’s authority to sign an Option for a Lease to Cameron Land Ventures, LLC, and Approval and President’s authority to sign a Resolution to the Commissioner of Insurance James “Jim” Donelon requesting administrative and/or legislative action to address issues related to hurricane damage and to require greater clarity and transparency be provided by homeowner’s insurers and agents in the State of Louisiana. Discussion and Public Comment Period followed.
On the motion of Mr. Wilkerson, seconded by Mr. Romero and carried the board approved the Resolution for an Option for a Lease to Cameron Land Ventures, LLC, and gave the President authority to sign.
On the motion of Mr. Romero, seconded by Mrs. Miller and carried the board approved and gave the President the authority to sign the Option for a Lease to Cameron Land Ventures, LLC.
On the motion of Mr. Romero, seconded by Mr. Griffith and carried the board approved and gave the President authority to sign the Resolution to the Commissioner of Insurance James “Jim” Donelon requesting administrative and/or legislative action to address issues related to hurricane damage and to require greater clarity and transparency be provided by homeowner’s insurers and agents in the State of Louisiana.
All Public Comments were discussed during the meeting.
The next regular meeting will be scheduled for May 25, 2021 at 5 p.m. at the Cameron Parish Port Building.
There being no further business and upon motion of Mr. Wilkerson seconded by Mrs. Miller and carried, the meeting was declared adjourned.
