Robert Penny

Robert James Penny was born Dec. 24, 1935, and passed away Monday, June 2, 2025, at the age of 89.

Robert was a World Champion Bull Rider for the years 1955, 1956, and 1959, and was put into the Hall of Fame in 2002, all for College Rodeo. He also owned and operated Penny and Sons Rodeo. Robert and his wife Sis were long standing members of the Little Britches Rodeo Association and mentored so many young cowboys and cowgirls.

He is survived by his children, Gerald Edward Penny and wife Monique, James Scott Penny, and Timothy Wayne Penny; and grandchildren, Tyrel, Jeb, Briana, Samantha, and Copper.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alpha “Sis” Penny; son, Mark Penny; parents, William and Armenia Penny; and brothers, William Alton Penny Jr., and Billy Dave Penny.

A graveside service was be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 7, at Alston Cemetery in DeQuincy.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
