Robert Hebert, Sr.

Robert Lee Hebert, Sr. (79) of Grand Lake, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2022 surrounded by family.

Robert was born on August 5, 1942 to the late Daisy Viola (Canter) and Adam Wallace Hebert in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He served in the U.S. Army (Reserves and Active Duty) Vietnam Veteran from 6/25/1960 – 5/17/1968.

During his early years he dedicated his time coaching peewee football and baseball at T.S. Cooley.

Robert had a passion for cooking and was known to cook for his large family gatherings and special events. He had a passion for French music and served as Vice President of CFMA and the president of building committee alongside of close friends, Walter Gothreaux and Jessie Arabia. All (3) were instrumental in getting the building built.

Robert and his wife in their spare time loved to go listen to his good friend Jo-El Sonnier play and sing French music. Robert was described by some family members as a “gentle giant”, who was stern but loved deeply and also gave credit where credit was due.

He truly loved family gatherings. He was a proud Pawpaw to many grandchildren. Some of his favorite moments were spent when his great grandchildren would go visit and he adored each of them.

Robert belonged to the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 106. He was (part owner) of UTS / United Technical Services.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronnie Hebert; sisters, Helen Hebert Myers and Judy Ann Hebert Riley; son in law, Chuck Babineaux; in-laws Odile Savoy Mouton & Joseph Ray Mouton; sister in law, Jacqueline Ann Mouton and brother in law, Dale Goodwin.

Left to cherish his memories is his loving wife of 61 years, Sandra Rita Mouton Hebert; brother, Don Ray Hebert; sisters Betty (Joe)Wilson and Dorothy Goodwin; his children Robert “Bobby” Lee Hebert, Jr., Mike (Kelly) Hebert, Kevin (Becky) Hebert, Lynn (Bryan) Thomas, Jean (Tony) Thomas. (14) grandchildren, Matthew (Ashley) Hebert, Randy (Leah) Hebert, Scott Hebert, Micah (Jake) Dunnehoo, Jayce (Jase) Hebert, Tyler (Joelle) Hebert, Lauren Hebert, Lucas (Courtney) Hebert, Jackie (Chris) Hebert, Kimmie (Nick) Poe, Katelyn (Brady) Saltzman, Courtney Thomas, Lakeyn (Braxton) Laughlin, and step grandchildren Shelby (Ryan) Monceaux, Lance, Ally, Luke and Emma Thomas;
(20) great grandchildren; Kamryn, Kyndall, Christopher, Cooper, Sawyer, Ellisyn, Crew, Paisyn, Briggs, Thomas, Charles, Cohen, Tace, Bella, Brayden, Kayleigh, Bryce, Baylor, Tenley and Steele.

A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, at Our Lady of Good Council Catholic Church in Lake Charles, LA. Burial will follow in Big Lake Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
Visitation will begin Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with rosary being recited at 6:30 p.m.

Visitation will resume on Thursday from 10:00 p.m. until leaving for the church.
