Written comments will be received until 1:00 PM on Monday, December 22, 2025 at the Cameron Parish West Annex Office located at 148 Smith Circle, Cameron, LA 70631 or mailed to Cameron Parish Police Jury, P. O. Box 1280, Cameron, LA 70631, Attn: Mary Carroll, or via email to mcarroll@cameronpj.org. Oral comments will be received at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 12, 2026 in the Cameron Parish Police Jury Meeting Room during the regular Cameron Parish Police Jury Meeting. Comments are based on the proposed changes to the Cameron Parish Ordinance listed below:
CHAPTER 15 – OFFENSES AND MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS; ARTICLE III – DISTURBING THE PEACE; SECTION 15-28 – EXCESSIVE NOISE PROHIBITED GENERALLY
ADD – SECTION 15-28
(1)
It shall be unlawful and prohibited for any person to use unmuffled compression braking that may be also referred to as: “Unmuffled compression braking,” “engine braking” within 500 yards at the 4-way stop and at the caution light in Creole, and from the “Y” (Mile Marker 31) to the Ferry on Hwy 82 in Cameron, Holly Beach between Mile Marker 45 on LA Hwy 27 to Mile Marker 25 on LA Hwy 82 and Mile Marker 48 on LA Hwy 27 North of Holly Beach and Johnson Bayou between Mile Marker 13 on LA Hwy 82 and Mile Marker 11 on LA Hwy 82, all located in Cameron Parish, LA.
The definition of “unmuffled compression brake” shall mean any motor vehicle brake that is operated by the compression of the engine of the motor vehicle. An unmuffled compression brake is also referred to as an “engine brake”.

It shall be unlawful for any person to use an unmuffled compression brake in any area designated by ordinance of the Cameron Parish Police Jury where use of an unmuffled compression brake is prohibited and further identified by regulatory signage. Such regulatory signage may be requested by the Parish upon which will authorize the administrator to apply for the “regulatory sign permit” from the Louisiana Department of Transportation for placement on the designated State Louisiana Highway located within the parish.

All public safety, emergency vehicles, and equipment shall be exempt from this section.
(4)
Violating the provisions of this section shall result in a fine or penalty of up to 30 days in jail and/or $250.00 and court costs.
