Mabel Richard

Mabel Frances “Too Toot” Richard, 91, a compassionate mother, passed peacefully to her eternal life in Heaven on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, in Grand Lake with her family by her side. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Creole.

Frances was born and raised in Creole, and she cherished her Cajun roots, food, culture, and music. As a beloved mother, she was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and she loved to prepare and serve homemade meals to everyone.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Ferdinand and Bessie Boudreaux; husband, Enos Richard; son, Leland “Mano” Richard; sister, Fay Bertrand; and brothers, Oren, Ernie, and John Robert Boudreaux.

Frances is survived by her children, Sharlene Doucet, Donna LeJeune, Jackie Bertrand (Butch), Karen Nunez (Mark), and Kim Richard (Kristie); grandchildren, Percy Doucet, Tracey Doucet, Corey Doucet, Contina LeJeune, Leland Bertrand, Derek Bertrand, Jeremy Nunez, Megan Beard, Nickalus Savoie, Lancey Richard, and Jarret Richard; 17 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Annette Baccigalopi and Christine Bertrand.

Frances’ family would like to express a special thank you to St. Joseph Hospice for the wonderful care they provided, to Rodger and Karen Theriot for allowing her to spend the rest of her days at their residence and for all their help, and to her caregivers: Diane Armentor, Pam Bridges, and Martha Conner.

Visitation began at 4 until 9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug.15, at J.E. Hixson Funeral Home with a Rosary beginning at 6 p.m. and resumed at 8 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Life Center in Creole. Rev. Jerish George, M.O.C. officiated. Burial followed in Chenier Pardue Cemetery.
