MINUTES
The Cameron Parish Beachfront Development District #1 Commission met in regular session on Monday, February 12, 2024, at the Johnson Bayou Community Center. The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Chairman Michele Long, who led the pledge and prayer.
COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairman Michele Long, Tammy Erbelding, Chad Cooper, and Secretary Cindy Snead.
ABSENT: Nikki Norman and Vice Chairman Russell Badon
GUEST: Sonny McGee, Cameron Parish Police Juror
PUBLIC COMMENT: None
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: On the motion of Tammy Erbelding, seconded by Chad Cooper, and carried, the minutes for the January 8, 2024 meeting were approved as presented.
FINANCIAL REPORT: On the motion of Chad Cooper, seconded by Tammy Erbelding, and carried, the board approved the 2023 EOY and January 2024 Financial Reports as presented.
OLD BUSINESS:
Ratify Email Consensus Items: On the motion of Tammy Erbelding, seconded by Chad Cooper, and carried, the board approved purchase of Beach Subdivision signage and Love the Boot ads.
Holly Beach Subcommittee: Discussion was tabled until the next meeting.
Love the Boot Beach Cleanup, April 20, 2024: Michele Long reported all volunteer beach leaders have been scheduled. Donations are coming in, and give-away prizes and supplies have been ordered. Additionally, the Turtle/Dolphin Stranding Network will attend.
Parish Economic Revitalization and Resilient Infrastructure Grant: Sonny McGee reported that the grant is moving forward for a pavilion/pier project at Holly Beach, but since it is funded through HUD, discussion will have to take place regarding Low-and Moderate Income Qualifications. He will work with the state officials to petition the federal government to address LMI qualifications in order to provide a needed economic boost to the area.
Subdivision Welcome Signs: Signs donated by Cheniere LNG have been ordered through ACME Signs, and when finished the parish road and bridges crew will install them.
Ethics & Sexual Harassment Prevention Training: Board members are reminded to complete trainings before the end of the calendar year.
NEW BUSINESS
Birding Tourism Event Project: Michele Long reported that the Cameron Parish Tourist Commission and the Audubon Society are in the beginning stages of planning a Birding Tourism Event. A meeting will be held soon to discuss the details for the event.
2024 Officer Elections: The election of 2024 officers was tabled until the next meeting.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Anne Klenke, Visit Lake Charles, will host a brainstorming meeting on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 from 1-3 p.m. to assist the Sabine NWR with their litter issues as well as “make sure the second most prominent attraction in Southwest Louisiana, the Creole Nature Trail All-American Road, continues to attract guests and dollars to the area.” Michele Long will attend and report back to the board.
Glenn Decuir sent an email thanking everyone for getting the signs that had washed away on Constance Beach back up in a timely manner.
Sonny McGee reported that he will be reappointing Tammy Erbelding and Nikki Norman to another term. Within 30 days of reappointment, they will need to report to the Clerk’s office and be sworn in for their next term. Also, Sonny McGee attended CPRA and CWPPRA meetings where there were discussions regarding funding plans for coastal projects in Grand Cheniere and Johnson Bayou areas.
Loretta Meaux asked about welcome signage at the ferry landing. Sonny McGee will reach out to Venture Global to see if they would be interested in partnering with the beach board to make this happen.
PAY BILLS:
On the motion of Chad Cooper, seconded by Tammy Erbelding, and carried, the board approved payment of $504 to Cameron Pilot for the 2024 Beach Sweep Ads. (Marshland account)
On the motion of Tammy Erbelding, seconded by Chad Cooper, and carried, the board approved payment of $58 to Cameron Pilot for the 2024 January/February Agendas/Minutes in the classifieds (Parish account 5475)
On the motion of Chad Cooper, seconded by Tammy Erbelding, and carried, the board approved payment of $9256.10 for Beach Subdivision signage when complete. (Parish account 5600)

There being no further business, on the motion of Tammy Erbelding, seconded by Chad Cooper, and carried, the meeting was adjourned at 7:47 p.m.
The next meeting will be March 11, 2024, 6:00 p.m. at the Johnson Bayou Community Center.
