Former Louisiana State University of Alexandria Chancellor Paul Coreil has been honored with the title of Chancellor Emeritus.
LSU President Wade Rousse presented Coreil with the honorary title Saturday night during the first quarter of LSU’s season opener against Clemson at Tiger Stadium, in front of a crowd of more than 100,000.

Coreil retired on July 1 after serving eight years as chancellor of the Alexandria campus. His 43-year career with the LSU System also included leadership roles with the LSU AgCenter and the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service.

The honorary designation of Chancellor Emeritus recognizes distinguished service by a former university leader and maintains an enduring association with the institution after retirement,” university officials said in a statement. The honor was formally endorsed by LSUA’s administration, faculty, staff and students.

During Coreil’s tenure, LSUA shared that the campus experienced significant enrollment growth, climbing from about 3,285 students in 2019 to nearly 8,000 by spring 2026. This growth made LSUA the fastest-growing university in Louisiana for four consecutive years.

Coreil also expanded academic programs and workforce-aligned pathways in healthcare, professional aviation, technology and pre-medicine.

Coreil’s career achievements have previously earned him inductions into the LSU AgCenter Hall of Fame, Louisiana 4-H Hall of Fame, National 4-H Hall of Fame, Louisiana Agriculture Hall of Distinction and LSUA Athletics Hall of Fame.

Coreil was a long time 4-H Leader in Cameron Parish.
