Larry Callegan

Larry Bryne Callegan, 73, of Lake Charles died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2022 at his residence.

He was born in New Roads, and raised in Morganza, where he graduated from Morganza High School in 1966. He went on to attend LSU. In 1990, he moved to Hackberry and to Lake Charles in 1994. He worked for Greyhound Bus Line, then went on to own and operate various companies throughout the years. He worked five years for Lowe’s Home Improvement, working his way to assistant manager.

He retired after working as a commercial fisherman in Hackberry, which was his favorite career.

He is survived by his wife, Melody Smith Callegan; children, Melissa Callegan of Denham Springs, Carla Callegan of Baton Rouge, Bryne Callegan and wife Theresa of Baton Rouge, and Nicole Callegan of Lake Charles; sister, Judy Burke and husband Rudy of Morganza; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivy and Wilma Granier Callegan; and one sister.

His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28, at University Baptist Church. Rev. Dr. Bart Leger and David Wells will lead the service. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the start of the service, with a rosary at 12 p.m.
