Mr. Williams will obtain an updated Occupational License report to use when adding businesses to the website. The festival rack cards discussion was deferred and will be a standing item on the agenda until information can be gathered.
New Business: Mr. Mike LeBlanc, owner of “Let’s Geaux Fishing”, and Kevin Ford, Media and Radio Director, presented a comprehensive proposal to primarily promote Cameron Parish fishing, along with other interests in the area through TV and Radio. The promotion would reach viewers through the “Pursuit” nationwide network, Cox and Eatel Cable channels, WBRZ in Baton Rouge and Regional Radio. The Investment would cost $48,000 for 4 shows from July 2022 through June 2023. The proposal is negotiable. The commissioners will digest the information, submit additional questions to Mr. Ford via email, and discuss at the next scheduled meeting.
Mr. Charlie Adkins spoke to the commission about the possibility of the restoration of the historic “SP Henry House” located adjacent to the courthouse square, purchased in 1870 by Mr. Henry, a minister and professor, when he moved to Cameron (then known as “Leesburg”) from Ohio. The heirs are in discussions to donate the house and property as a museum to display the rich history of Cameron Parish. The commissioners will tour the home prior to the next scheduled meeting and explore avenues for grants and/or donations.
Ms. Miller reported that The Creole Nature Trail would not replace “Welcome to Cameron” billboards that were present prior to the storms, an inquiry that had been made by Police Jury Representative, Sonny McGee.
Ms. Dunaway reported that community signs were initially funded with LNG funds given to the schools. The commission will continue discussions regarding replacement of signs and the addition of trees near the signs at the next scheduled meeting.
Ms. Nunez reported that visiting birders to Cameron parish had a very informative meeting and enjoyed their stay.
The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 2:00 p.m., at the Cameron Parish Police Jury conference room. A tour of the SP Henry home will precede the meeting, at 1:30 p.m.
