Jessie Richard

Jessie Michael Richard, 46, of Lake Charles, was taken from this world way too soon on Wednesday Dec. 27, 2023 in Hayes from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Jessie was a longtime resident of the Lake Area, having worked as a corrections officer for both the Cameron and Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office for the past twenty years. He enjoyed his job and was well respected by his coworkers. While not working, Jessie’s whole world was his daughter, Adlie Grace.

He was a great dad that never missed a softball game or band concert. He gave his little girl what she wanted and, in typical form, she always wanted much! He was a simple man, who loved watching wrestling and football. He was an unwavering Pittsburg Steelers fan but he loved his Saints, too. He was easy to get along with and will be greatly missed.

Jessie was preceded in death by his father, Layne Emerson Richard; grandparents, Ronald “Casey” and Thelma Cole Richard; Eugene Richard; and great-grandmother, Vernice “Mokey” Cole.

He leaves to honor and cherish his memories, his daughter, Adlie Grace Richard of Lake Arthur; mother, Susan Richard of Ragley; grandmother, Carolyn Evans Richard of Moss Bluff; sister, Leslie Ashworth (Bradley) of Ragley; niece, Laklyn Ashworth; nephew, Brenton Ashworth; mother of his child, Shelly LeBleu Benson; as well as numerus cousins and extended law enforcement family and family of the heart.

Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., with Cameron Parish Sheriff’s Office Honors, on Tuesday Jan. 2, at Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. A Celebration of His Life was held at 1 p.m., led by Pastor Jared Pugh. Burial, also with Sheriff’s Office Honors, was alongside his beloved grandparents at Creel Cemetery in Reeves.
