Jim was a longtime resident of Cameron, for 58 years, and more recently of Lafayette since 1991. He was a man of deep faith and a dedicated parishioner of St. Mary Mother of the Church in Lafayette and Our Lady Star of the Sea Church Parish in Cameron. While in Cameron he served as a Catechism Instructor and as a member of the Knights of Columbus for many years. His commitment to community service extended beyond his Church Parish, as he was also an active member of the Cameron Lions Club.
A graduate of St. Louis High School in Lake Charles, Jim went on to earn his Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Northeastern in Monroe. He was a beloved pharmacist, serving the community of Cameron for over 40 years at the family-owned Cameron Drug Store and South Cameron Memorial Hospital until his well-earned retirement. His dedication to his profession and the well-being of his customers made him a trusted figure in the community.
Beyond his work, Jim and his wife, Nell, found joy in giving back, volunteering together in the pharmacy at the Lafayette Community Health Care Clinic, where they extended their care to those in need. He also cherished the camaraderie of friends on the golf course, always appreciating the game and the lasting friendships it fostered.
Jim found joy in life’s simple pleasures, whether casting a fishing line, working on puzzles, or getting lost in a good book. A talented vocalist, he shared his love of music as a member of The Soundwaves and St. Mary’s Choir for over 10 years, bringing joy to others through song.
His legacy of faith, service, and devotion to both his “profession and community” will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Pallbearers were Kevin Colligan, Timothy Colligan, Alan McCall, Joseph McCall, Jeremy Benoit, and R.J. Breaux.
The family of Mr. Colligan extends their gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to the team at Garden View Assisted Living; with special thanks to Faye Dugas and Femaka Huntsberry for their loving and compassionate care; Dr. Anthony Blalock; and the staff at the Fresenius Kidney Care Clinic in Broussard.
